Miles O’ Brien and Antarctic Research
PBS correspondent Miles O’ Brien was given the assignment of a lifetime, document the Thwaites Glacier, otherwise known as the “Doomsday Glacier”. At the rate the Earth is warming, Thwaites poses a very serious threat to the planet if it continues to break off into the ocean.
His mission would take him to the edge of the known world aboard the Antarctic Korean Research vessel, The Araon.
So, we got to work on a strategy to boost his social media presence during the trip.
The strategy was simple: create informal content based on day-to-day things he does aboard the vessel.
His Instagram presence began to skyrocket, seeing a growth rate at one point of 1,000 followers in a week. The strategy worked as expected, seeing a total of 3% growth across all platforms in 1 month, with the highest being on Instagram at 29%.
